Grammar rules
- Consists of the nominalizer '-(으)ㅁ' attached to a verb, followed by the instrumental particle '으로써' (by means of).
- Mostly used in formal writing, speeches, or news.
- It is interchangeable with '-는 것으로'.
- While '-(으)ㅁ으로써' expresses a means or method, '-(으)므로' literally means 'because' or 'due to'.
운동을 함으로써 건강을 유지한다. (Maintains health BY exercising.) vs 운동을 하므로 건강하다. (Is healthy BECAUSE they exercise.)
- Do not confuse this with '-(으)로서' which attaches to nouns to denote status or qualification (As a...).
