Grammar rules

  • Use '걸리다' for time (e.g., 시간, 일, 달, 년).
  • Use '들다' for money or effort (e.g., 돈, 비용).
  • The '데' acts as a dependent noun meaning 'the act/circumstance of', so it is preceded by a space and '-는'.
  • The subject markers 이/가 or 은/는 often follow the time/money word.

책을 읽는 데 이틀이 걸렸어요. (It took two days to read the book.)
