Beginner Particles

Formation

와/과: Nouns ending in vowel + 와, nouns ending in consonant + 과. (이)랑: Nouns ending in vowel + 랑, nouns ending in consonant + 이랑. 하고: Can be used with any noun. 친구 + 와 → 친구와. 책 + 과 → 책과. 친구 + 랑 → 친구랑. 책 + 이랑 → 책이랑. 친구 + 하고 → 친구하고.

Examples

친구와 영화를 봤어요.

With someone

엄마하고 쇼핑했어요.

With someone (casual)

Usage

Used to express "and" or "with". 와/과 is formal, (이)랑 is casual, 하고 is neutral/casual. 와 after vowels, 과 after consonants. (이)랑 after vowels, 이랑 after consonants. 하고 can be used with any noun.
